Princess Lalla Hasnaa presided over the final ceremony of the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix for show jumping 2024 on Sunday in Rabat.
Upon her arrival at the equestrian village, Princess Lalla Hasnaa was welcomed by Moulay Abdellah Alaoui, president of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Equestrian Sports, before reviewing a unit of the Auxiliary Forces that rendered honors.
Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa then greeted the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohammed Sadiki; the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid; the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Rabat, Abdullah bin Thamer Al Thani; the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Younes Shimi; the president of the Moroccan National Olympic Committee, Faiçal Laraïchi; the Wali of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, governor of the Rabat prefecture, Mohamed Yacoubi; the president of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra regional council, Rachid El Abdi; the president of the Rabat communal council, Fatiha El Moudni; and the president of the Rabat prefecture council, Abdelaziz Derouiche.
Her Highness also greeted Adil El Fakir, Director General of the National Airports Office and General Commissioner of the Qatar-Morocco Cultural Year 2024; Sheikh Fahad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chief of Staff to H.E. Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani; H.E. Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi, member of the executive board of Qatar Museums; Jan Tops, president of Global Champions Tour; and Urs Schiendorfer, Longines global consultant for equestrian sports.
Princess Lalla Hasnaa then proceeded to the VIP lounge, where she watched the final of this prestigious show jumping event.
At the end of the competition, Princess Lalla Hasnaa presented the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Trophy (2024 edition) to Austrian Max Kühner, who ranked first after the 15 stages of this international circuit. The second and third places went to Christian Kukuk (Germany) and Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann (Germany) respectively.
On this occasion, prizes were also awarded to the grooms who joined the winners on the podium.
As for the Grand Prix of show jumping for the final stage of the Longines Global Champions Tour, held in Rabat, it was won by Spanish rider Eduardo Alvarez Aznar, while Swedish Malin Baryard-Johnsson and German Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann secured the second and third prizes respectively.
After iconic cities such as Paris, New York, Monaco, and Riyadh, the famous show jumping competition, Longines Global Champions Tour 2024, was held for the very first time in Rabat, Morocco, from October 18 to 20.
This prestigious event, with a global reputation, was held for the first time on African soil. It is part of the Morocco-Qatar Cultural Year 2024, initiated by “Years of Culture,” which testifies to the depth of the strong and historical ties between the two brotherly peoples and the two Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, and His Highness Sheikh Tamim Ben Hamad Al Thani.
Holding this show jumping circuit in Rabat carries a high symbolic value, especially as Morocco has had a special attachment to horses over the centuries, these divine creatures rooted in the Kingdom’s heritage traditions.
The Longines Global Champions Tour is indeed the world’s largest show jumping series. The circuit promotes excellence in equestrian sports, showcasing the highest levels of competition and sportsmanship.
