The National Commission of Medical Students in Morocco has announced a new protest to be held on October 5th in the capital, Rabat, in response to what they describe as a lack of constructive dialogue and tangible solutions to their demands.
This escalation comes at a time when the medical students’ crisis continues, with students rejecting new proposals presented by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation regarding new dates for examinations and the resumption of studies in medical schools.
A statement issued by the National Commission explained that the protest will be held under the slogan “Moroccan Youth and its Cadres for Better Rights and Health Conditions.” The statement emphasized that students are rejecting the proposals of Minister Abdellatif Miraoui’s department, considering them “insufficient,” and expressed regret for the “absence of concrete measures and solutions” to definitively resolve this issue.
Medical students strongly condemned the moral and physical assaults against students, doctors, and their families during recent peaceful demonstrations. They affirmed in their statement: “Our spirit of struggle surpasses all forms of fear and intimidation, and is primarily based on confidence in our demands and the unity of students who have demonstrated a high level of awareness, stability, and civic sense throughout these past ten months.”
It’s worth noting that these protests come as part of a series of actions undertaken by medical students to demand improvements in their conditions and fulfillment of their requests, amid ongoing disagreement with the Ministry of Higher Education.
