Walid Regragui, the coach of the Moroccan national football team, has announced the date for revealing the list of players participating in the September preparatory camp. The squad will be announced during a press conference on Thursday, August 29, at the Mohammed VI Complex in Maâmora.
This preparation comes ahead of two official matches in the first and second rounds of the Africa Cup of Nations “Morocco 2025” qualifiers. The first match will be against Gabon on September 6, followed by a match against Lesotho on the 9th of the same month. Both matches will be held at the Adrar Complex in Agadir.
The national team’s lineup is expected to undergo some changes compared to the last preparatory camp, either due to injuries, lack of competition, or the coach’s technical choices. The left-back position poses a particular challenge for Regragui, with the possibility of calling up new players for this role.
The coach also faces other challenges related to the level of some key players and their lack of competition in their current clubs, such as Nayef Aguerd, Azzedine Ounahi, and Sofiane Boufal. On the other hand, there are expectations for the return of some players who were recently absent due to injury, such as Zakaria Aboukhlal and Selim Amallah.
It’s worth noting that the Moroccan Olympic team achieved a historic feat by winning the bronze medal in the recent Paris Olympics, which may influence Regragui’s choices for the upcoming squad.
The training camp will begin on Monday, September 2, in Maâmora, before the team moves to Agadir on Thursday in preparation for the first match against Gabon.
This announcement comes as Morocco continues to build on its recent successes in international football, with the national team aiming to maintain its strong performance in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
