Principal of Progress High School in Ain Cheggag Community Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Involvement in Violent Sexual Assault of a Minor

The Court of First Instance’s Criminal Chamber has issued a sentence of five (05) years in prison against D.B., the principal of Progress High School in Ain Cheggag community, which falls under the Moulay Yacoub directorate. He was convicted of violently sexually assaulting a minor and abusing his authority over her.

The Royal Gendarmerie had arrested the accused after a national search warrant was issued against him by the competent public prosecutor’s office, and borders were closed to prevent his escape. This came after he disappeared following the circulation of a video documenting suspected harassment of a student inside his administrative office.

After a public hearing, the court decided to charge the defendant with the costs of the trial with minimum enforcement. The court president also informed the defendant of the provisions of Article 440 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which relates to the rights of the convicted person to submit an appeal and challenge the verdict.

This case comes in the context of judicial authorities’ efforts to protect minors from any violations and ensure that perpetrators of these crimes are firmly punished.
