In a new development on the Moroccan sports scene, businessman Hicham Aït Menna was unanimously elected president of Wydad Athletic Club (WAC) during the general assembly held on Wednesday in a Casablanca hotel.
Aït Menna’s election came as expected after all his competitors withdrew, opening a new chapter in the history of the Red Club following the end of Said Naciri’s era, who is currently in detention over the “Sahara Escobar” case.
During the meeting, the moral and financial reports for the 2023-2024 season were approved, along with the auditor’s report, before the announcement of the resignation of the previous executive board.
Aït Menna’s list, succeeding Abdelmajid Bernaki, includes 14 members, among them Kamal Dissaoui as first vice-president, Issam Dahiri as second vice-president, Issam Laasal as third vice-president, Abdessadeq Morchid as general secretary, Amine Echibani as his deputy, Saad Eddraib as treasurer, and Amina Azmi as his deputy. The list also includes seven advisors.
It’s worth noting that Hicham Aït Menna had already begun work, having been appointed interim president following Bernaki’s resignation. In this role, he recruited South African coach Rulani Mokwena to replace Aziz Ben Askar and signed new players during the current transfer window, following several departures. Among the new faces in the Red team are Abdelali Mhamdi, Jawad Khalouk, Mohamed Moufid, and Mohamed Rayhi.
This new phase is expected to bring both challenges and opportunities for Wydad Casablanca, one of Morocco’s most prestigious clubs, as the new management seeks to achieve success both domestically and continentally.
