Khaled El Satti, a parliamentary advisor for the National Union of Workers in Morocco (UNTM) union, wrote a written question to the Minister of Interior about changing the name of the “Kalaba” roundabout, located in the Mkansa commune on the outskirts of Taounate.
Al-Satti described the current name of the roundabout as insulting and offensive, emphasizing that it exposes the roundabout’s residents, who number about 1,000 people, to ridicule and taunting.
The name “Kalaba,” which directly refers to the word “dog,” is embarrassing to residents, especially children, youth and the elderly, who find it difficult to accept it as an official name that appears on their personal documents and residential addresses.
For his part, Satti called on the Minister of Interior to intervene, calling for cooperation with local authorities and the collective council to choose an alternative name that respects the dignity of the residents and achieves consensus in the community.
