Protest Statement by Fez Associations Regarding Camp Transport Buses

The Coordination for the Restoration of Educational Action in the Fez-Meknes Region issued a protest statement following the launch of the National Camping Program on July 1, 2024. The associations expressed their deep dissatisfaction with the decision of the elected councils to deprive them of transport buses to the camping centers, exacerbating their financial hardships and highlighting a systematic policy of restriction.

Statement Details

Under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and aimed at promoting childhood and youth issues, the associations in Fez, involved in the national camping program, were surprised by an incomprehensible and unjustified decision from the heads of the elected councils to deprive them of their acquired right to benefit from transport buses. This decision increases the associations’ financial burdens and raises the symbolic contributions required for participation in the camping stages, thus depriving a large segment of children from disadvantaged families of their right to participate in this year’s camps.

Harsh Criticism of Elected Councils

The coordination pointed out that the neglect of local councils, especially the Fez Municipality Council and its district councils, to their roles in implementing local policies related to economic, social, and cultural development reflects a lack of concern for the needs and issues of the city’s children and youth. The coordination called on all elected council heads to reconsider their priorities and find real solutions to meet the expectations of children and youth, stressing that support for transport buses for summer camps is a non-negotiable right and acquired benefit.

Call for Immediate Action

In conclusion, the coordination urged all responsible parties and stakeholders in Fez to work on resolving the issue of transporting children to camping centers as soon as possible, especially as the second camping phase approaches.
