CAF Cup: Renaissance Berkane one step away from a third title

All eyes will be on the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday for the second leg of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup final between Berkane’s Nahdet Berkane, who are seeking their third title in the competition, and Egypt’s Zamalek, who are eager to regain their continental status.

After a thrilling first leg, both teams are ready to give it their all in this North African derby.

Having won the first leg at home (2-1) last Sunday, the orange side will try to turn the crowd factor in their favour in the return leg in Cairo, by turning it into pressure on the Egyptian side. To do so, they will need to approach the game calmly and avoid being rushed.

Al-Fahli and his teammates could also take advantage of Zamalek’s desire to score as quickly as possible to overturn the first leg result, in order to break the Egyptian side’s concentration and put them under more pressure.

All Nahda Berkane players know what awaits them in this match and are used to this stage of the competition, especially since the Moroccan club has already won the title twice (2020 and 2022) and narrowly missed the title against the same rival in 2019 (losing the final on penalties).

The Berkane Renaissance will also be keen to maintain their unbeaten record in this edition of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Indeed, the Moroccan side have won all seven of their home matches, while their away record is 2 wins and 4 draws.

Nahdet Berkane face an unstoppable opponent at home in the CAF Cup this season, with four wins and two draws, compared to four wins, two defeats and a draw away from home.

For the Berkane club, the signs are promising, with preparations going well and the players back in action.

In doing so, the orange team realises the hopes of Moroccan fans to see this season culminate in another continental title for Moroccan football, and perpetuate the good performance of national clubs in the African arena.
