Royal Gendarmerie investigations lead to the arrest of the most dangerous drug baron in Spain, who faces 15 years in prison in Morocco

The Spanish Attorney General’s Office said it supports Morocco’s extradition request for the alleged leader of an international drug trafficking ring. Justice is expected to decide next Thursday.

Next Thursday, Spanish justice is scheduled to consider a request submitted by Morocco to extradite Mohamed B, suspected of being the mastermind of a drug and human trafficking network. The person concerned is wanted by the Kingdom’s authorities and faces a 15-year prison sentence.

The Spanish Public Prosecutor’s Office has already approved this extradition, because “there is double criminality – the acts of which he is accused occurred in both countries – there is no statute of limitations, and the accused is an adult and does not have Spanish citizenship.”

The Moroccan authorities consider the suspect to be the alleged mastermind of a network dedicated to international drug trafficking, and his wife, of Spanish nationality, is said to own a boat used for this criminal activity, but also for the secret entry of people, including members of his family.

It was the investigations of the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie that led to the arrest of the tourist boat, on August 21, 2022, while the boat was trying to enter the port carrying four large cans of gasoline, according to what the Spanish EFE agency reported.

The officers were astonished by the fact that the boat had no papers and that the fuel tank was full. After inspection, they discovered drugs hidden on board.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office explained that since the wife of Muhammad b. Spanish and wanted to avoid “complications”, the accused’s partners decided to make a power of attorney in the name of another suspect so that they could manage the boat.

The man, born in 1980 in Morocco, was arrested on October 19 and placed in pretrial detention. In January this year, he opposed his extradition while appearing before an investigating judge.

As for the Public Prosecution, in this case the conditions for extradition are met, and it requests the Moroccan authorities, to obtain additional information, to provide information about the drugs seized on board the boat.
