Rachid El-Talbi Al-Alami re-elected as President of the House of Representatives for the remaining legislative term

In a voting session attended by 324 deputies out of 395, Rachid El-Talbi Al-Alami, the parliamentary deputy for the National Rally of Independents party, was re-elected as the President of the House of Representatives for the remaining current legislative term during the general session held yesterday, Friday.

El-Talbi Al-Alami received 264 votes, while his competitor, Abdullah Bouanou, the candidate of the Justice and Development Party, received only 23 votes.

El-Talbi Al-Alami’s scale was tipped by the support of the government majority, which decided to support his nomination for the presidency of the council during the second half of the legislative term in a meeting held days ago.

The session faced some controversy due to the absence of the oldest member, Mohamed Bohddoud, from the National Rally of Independents party, who was supposed to preside over its proceedings.

Hamdi Ould Rachid, the deputy for the Independence Party, chaired the session instead of Bohddoud, stating that his absence was due to illness.

It is worth mentioning that this is the second time that El-Talbi Al-Alami has been elected as President of the House of Representatives, as he previously held the position during the current legislative term.
