The King Takes Charge of the Medical Care for a Moroccan Woman Assaulted by a Doctor in India

In a humanitarian gesture, King Mohammed VI gave his high instructions to ensure the medical care and follow-up of a Moroccan citizen who was the victim of a sexual assault in a private hospital in Old Goa, India.

According to the Indian newspaper Times of India, the victim, aged 24, was attacked by her treating doctor, Vrushab (Firoshab) Doshi, a 28-year-old practitioner. The doctor allegedly took advantage of her vulnerability while she was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a neurological disorder to commit the assault after asking the nurse to leave the room.

The incident reportedly occurred during the night of August 31, around 10 p.m., while the young woman was immobile and in a fragile state, according to The Indian Express.

Complaint Filed by the Victim’s Sister
The case came to light after the victim’s sister — who holds both Moroccan and Spanish nationality — filed a complaint with the police. According to her testimony, the doctor abused the situation by committing inappropriate acts: “lifting her blouse,” “touching her breasts,” “grabbing her buttocks,” and “inserting his fingers into her private parts,” claiming to perform a neurological sensitivity examination.

Suspect Arrested
Indian authorities immediately opened an investigation. The hospital suspended the doctor pending police conclusions. After several days on the run, the suspect was arrested in Solapur, Maharashtra state, and placed in custody.

This case sparked widespread outrage in India, reigniting debate about the safety of hospitalized patients, especially those too weak to defend themselves, and the responsibilities of private clinics in monitoring and respecting patients’ rights.

Royal Solidarity
In Morocco, the announcement of the royal decision to cover the victim’s medical care was welcomed as a sign of the King’s solidarity and concern for his citizens, whether they are in the Kingdom or abroad.
