On the evening of Saturday, September 20, 2025, the Judicial Police in Berkane, in close coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DST), arrested four suspects believed to be involved in drug trafficking using a drone to smuggle narcotics to the Algerian border.
This significant operation was based on precise information provided by territorial surveillance agents, following the arrest of a wanted individual involved in international drug trafficking in Ahfir on September 15. After in-depth investigations by DST, the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Berkane ordered the arrest of four other suspects involved in the same case, hailing from the areas of Saïdia, Berkane, and Ahfir.
On the morning of Sunday, September 21, 2025, a special joint commando unit from the Territorial Surveillance Directorate and the Judicial Police in Berkane and Ahfir executed a well-planned ambush, resulting in the arrest of another suspect in the Laabita neighborhood of Ahfir. During the search, authorities seized a drone, a significant quantity of hashish estimated at around 10 kilograms, and five batteries used to operate the drones for drug smuggling purposes.
This brings the total number of detainees in this case to nine individuals, who form an organized network involved in international drug trafficking using advanced means.
The five recently arrested suspects are under judicial investigation supervised by the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office, aiming to uncover all the circumstances of this criminal network and trace its potential extensions at both the national and international levels.
