The “Digital Content Observatory” praised the modern approach to road signage and the new road designs adopted by the “Fez Urban Development Company,” confirming that these efforts will enable the scientific capital to meet the technical conditions for full and effective access to global positioning services (GPS), especially those used in Google navigation applications.
The observatory explained in its report that the new designs of roundabouts and vertical and horizontal signage systems in Fez now comply with internationally accepted standards, which not only facilitates navigation for drivers but also provides clear and readable data infrastructure for global digital mapping systems. This will significantly enhance the accuracy of driver-assistance applications within the city.
On the ground, the commendation highlighted the positive impact of this new infrastructure on citizens’ daily lives. Thanks to the redesign of several roundabouts that were previously traffic black spots, a noticeable reduction in traffic congestion and a relief in vehicle pressure, especially during morning and evening peak hours, were observed. This has contributed to improving the quality of mobility within the urban area of Fez.
This step represents a qualitative leap that places the city of Fez on the path to smart cities, where physical infrastructure integrates with modern digital systems. The project is a dual success as it offers a practical solution to traffic congestion while simultaneously enhancing the city’s digital appeal, making navigation and exploration easier for both residents and visitors.
