Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdelsamad Kayouh, announced today, Monday, the launch of an ambitious program worth 28 billion dirhams under the “Airports 2030” vision, aimed at developing and modernizing the Kingdom’s airport infrastructure.
The project centers around the construction of a new airport in Casablanca, which will serve as a strategic link between Morocco and the rest of the world. The new Casablanca airport will be an advanced hub for connecting flights requiring more than 8 hours of flight time.
The vision also includes the expansion of several airports in the cities that will host the World Cup matches, namely Casablanca, Marrakech, Tangier, Rabat, Fez, and Agadir. The airports will also be equipped with a high-speed train to facilitate passenger movement, with the journey between Marrakech city and the airport taking approximately 50 minutes, and between Tangier city and the airport about an hour and a half.
This ambitious program comes within the framework of the Kingdom’s preparations to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, to strengthen Morocco’s position as a regional air transport hub, and to improve air connectivity between various regions of the Kingdom and the world.
These massive investments reflect Morocco’s commitment to developing its airport infrastructure to keep pace with the increasing growth in air traffic and meet the requirements of hosting major global sporting events.
