In a significant step to enhance the socio-professional reintegration of prison inmates, a framework partnership agreement was signed on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, between Zakiya El Driouch, Secretary of State for Fisheries, Mohamed Saleh Tamk, Director General of the Prison Administration and Reintegration, and the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Prisoners. The agreement aims to launch specialized training programs in fishing professions to equip inmates with practical skills that will facilitate their integration into the job market upon release.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of Prisons on their official Facebook page, this initiative is part of the ongoing collaboration between the concerned parties to provide vocational training that meets the needs of inmates across various regions. The training programs will cover areas such as functional literacy in fishing, maritime safety, marine environmental preservation, net manufacturing, and other skills aimed at preparing inmates for the labor market’s requirements.
In the first phase, approximately 300 male and female inmates will benefit from these programs in prison facilities located in cities such as Nador, Tangier, Larache, Casablanca, Safi, Essaouira, Agadir, Tan-Tan, Laayoune, and Al Hoceima. These programs are expected to enhance inmates’ skills, equipping them with practical expertise that will enable their effective reintegration into society upon release, thus increasing their chances of securing sustainable employment.
This agreement aligns with the national effort to improve the socio-professional reintegration conditions for prisoners and represents a step toward opening new horizons for inmates by providing them with the necessary skills to secure job opportunities that contribute to their social and community stability.
