The second edition of the AgriTech Expo, which highlighted the pioneering role of the Fez-Meknes region in transforming the agricultural sector through the integration of modern technologies and sustainable practices, was held in Sefrou on Monday.

Valorizing agricultural assets and moving towards sustainability
Speaking at the event, the governor of the Fez-Meknes region, Mouaz Jamei, stressed that the exhibition is an opportunity to valorize the region’s agricultural resources and strengthen its position as a leading agricultural hub, with a focus on integrating modern technology in the management of water resources and energy.

The importance of royal directives in strengthening national food sovereignty was highlighted, adding that climate challenges require integrated crisis management and modernization of agricultural practices, especially through structured projects such as the Sais Plain Protection Program (spread over 30,000 hectares with a budget of 5.8 billion dirhams) and the establishment of an agricultural technology pole with an investment of 16.3 million dirhams.

Challenges of the sector and the importance of innovation
For his part, Rachid Benali, President of the Moroccan Confederation for Agriculture and Rural Development, stressed the need to enhance the resilience of the agricultural sector, calling for the adoption of technological and digital solutions to face climate challenges and improve productivity, and emphasized the need to motivate youth to engage in the agricultural field and benefit from innovation to develop agricultural practices.

Amin Zarrouk, President of Green OpenLAb, emphasized the importance of scientific research and technology in enhancing food security, calling for enhanced collaboration between agricultural experts and technology engineers to design practical and accessible tools that support farmers in shifting towards more sustainable agriculture.

Recommendations and partnerships to promote innovation
The current edition of the exhibition was characterized by the presentation of a white book, which includes recommendations that emerged from workshops in which young researchers and professionals participated, with the aim of shaping a more advanced agricultural future.

The event also witnessed the signing of two partnership agreements between the Netherlands Cooperation Organization, Acrinova Fez-Meknes and Maroc Bio, with the aim of promoting agricultural innovation at the local level and facilitating the access of Moroccan products to international markets.

Through these initiatives, AgriTech Expo emphasizes that technology and innovation are the cornerstone of the development of the agricultural sector, contributing to food security and sustainable development in Morocco.
