The Progress and Socialism team in the House of Representatives warned of the serious repercussions of the government’s insistence on ignoring the growing social tensions and worsening economic difficulties, calling for urgent measures to confront the current situation.
During the session to discuss the report of the High Council of Accounts for the years 2023-2024, held Tuesday morning in the House of Representatives, MP Nadia Touhami criticized what she described as the government’s “systematic refusal” to take concrete and strong measures to confront the high cost of living, rising prices, and deteriorating purchasing power, especially among the vulnerable and middle classes. She also warned of the unprecedented rise in unemployment rates and increasing poverty rates, which further aggravates the social situation in the country.
Touhami expressed surprise at what she considered “the government’s normalization of rents, monopolies, corruption and conflicts of interest,” accusing it of serving the interests of financial lobbies at the expense of citizens, in light of the difficult economic and social conditions.
The Progress and Socialism team also criticized what it described as “the exploitation by some components of the government of public programs and means for early electoral purposes, using illegal methods that contradict the principles of good governance and sound democracy.”
This position comes in the context of an escalating debate on the economic and social challenges facing Moroccans, amid growing demands for more effective government action to mitigate the repercussions of the crisis.
