During an extraordinary meeting of the General Secretariat of the Justice and Development Party held on Sunday, December 29, former Secretary-General Abdelilah Benkirane made sharp statements that ignited widespread debate regarding the current political performance and certain government officials. Benkirane expressed regret over what he described as a decline in trust between citizens and institutions, attributing it to weak government performance and a lack of competence in managing critical issues.
He stressed that the current phase demands new political figures with credibility and the ability to take on responsibility.
In his speech, Benkirane called for the dismissal of the Minister of Justice, arguing that the minister’s performance has not met citizens’ expectations, especially concerning sensitive cases. He emphasized that such a position requires a person with the qualifications to handle issues with professionalism and integrity.
Benkirane also highlighted prominent figures in Morocco’s political landscape, praising their historical contributions to the country, including Mustapha Ramid, Abdallah Baha, and Michichi Alami. He asserted that the current stage necessitates drawing on these experiences to rebuild trust between the state and society and to address the challenges ahead.
Regarding upcoming legislation, Benkirane stated that the Justice and Development Party would announce its stance on new legal texts once they are officially issued. He assured that the party’s positions would reflect its commitment to the interests of the nation and its citizens.
In closing, Benkirane addressed the public, affirming that citizens remain the ultimate arbiters between political parties and institutions. He also expressed confidence in King Mohammed VI’s wisdom in steering the country during this critical phase, emphasizing the need for change and reform to restore trust and meet the aspirations of the Moroccan people.
