Union Protest Against Deteriorating Conditions of Justice Sector Workers in Fez

The local office of the Democratic Union of Justice in Fez has issued a protest statement denouncing the deteriorating conditions faced by workers in the city’s justice sector. This statement came following a meeting held by the office on Friday, December 20, 2024, where a range of pressing issues concerning justice sector employees were discussed.

At the forefront of the issues raised in the statement is the new strike law, which the union described as “restrictive,” considering it an emptying of a constitutional right of its content. The statement also highlighted the severe shortage of human resources in Fez’s courts, especially in the Court of First Instance, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the Court of Appeal, which has led to increased pressure on workers in the absence of tangible solutions from the Ministry of Justice.

The statement strongly criticized the performance of the Regional Branch Directorate, accusing it of deception and misleading, particularly regarding the non-implementation of previous agreements, such as allocating parking spaces for employees and judges. It also pointed to the ongoing technical problems in air conditioning systems, and the lack of office supplies and basic equipment, which negatively affects the performance and comfort of employees.

Among other points raised in the statement were the difficult professional situation of court clerks in the misdemeanor section, the absence of cafeterias in Fez’s courts and the branch directorate, and the failure to provide sanitary supplies in restrooms, especially for women working in the sector.

The local office expressed its absolute rejection of moving the headquarters of the Commercial Court of Appeal to the former space of the Administrative Court of First Instance, demanding that this space be allocated to the Family Justice Department to reduce overcrowding. It also criticized the lack of vision for developing the Regional Branch Directorate headquarters and modernizing the functional transport fleet.

In conclusion, the local office announced its readiness to engage in unprecedented escalatory struggles in defense of the rights of justice sector workers, holding the Regional Branch Directorate fully responsible for the deteriorating situation. It also called on all militants to rally around the union and prepare for all forms of struggle until legitimate demands are met.
