The city of Casablanca witnessed a horrific accident on the morning of Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the “Ibn Tachfine” tram station in Hay Mohammadi, resulting in casualties and significant material damage.
The tragedy occurred when a large truck violently crashed into the tram station, causing the death of three people and seriously injuring a fourth. A woman died instantly, while two others passed away while being transported to the hospital. The fourth victim was rushed to Mohammed V Hospital in critical condition to receive necessary treatment.
According to initial investigations, it appears that the truck driver lost control of his vehicle due to a brake system malfunction, leading to the violent collision with the station, which was crowded with passengers at the time.
Local authorities and civil defense teams rushed to the scene to rescue victims and organize traffic in the area known for its daily congestion. An investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and establish responsibilities.
For its part, “Casa Tramway” company deployed its technical teams to assess the extent of the damage and carry out necessary repairs to resume transport service as soon as possible. This accident has caused disruptions to tram lines, especially those heading to Sidi Moumen, resulting in significant delays.
It is worth noting that this tragic accident has shaken the city and raised concerns about the safety of tram stations and the need to take additional measures to protect passengers. The results of the investigation are expected to lead to actions to enhance safety in Casablanca’s public transport system.
