During a parliamentary session held on November 26, 2024, the House of Representatives addressed several critical issues, including the absence of deputies and the reading of names of absentees, sparking procedural debates among members.
The leader of the Istiqlal Party’s parliamentary group highlighted a breach of the House’s internal regulations, particularly Article 395, which outlines the procedures for addressing absenteeism. He questioned the premature announcement of members’ names without adhering to the proper protocol for documenting absences, demanding an apology for those whose names were read. He emphasized the need for strict adherence to the internal rules to ensure fairness and transparency.
The session’s Deputy Speaker expressed surprise over the withdrawal of remarks regarding apologies for absences. He pointed out that there had been an agreement to read the names of absent deputies and their apologies during the following session. Furthermore, he stressed that Article 395 requires a warning for the first absence and formal documentation for the second, a procedure that had not been properly followed, necessitating corrective action.
On the legislative front, the Haraki group presented 91 legislative proposals comprising over 1,000 articles, which remain unreviewed. The group called on the government to prioritize these proposals and urged parliamentary committees to actively discuss and advance these laws in alignment with constitutional mandates.
The session concluded with a call for stronger coordination between the government and the House of Representatives to ensure these significant issues are addressed effectively in upcoming sessions, prioritizing the interests of the nation and its citizens.
