18 Dead and Over 2,500 Injured in Urban Road Accidents in Morocco Within a Week

Statistics from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) revealed that 2,006 traffic accidents occurred in urban areas during the week from October 28 to November 3, resulting in 18 deaths and 2,583 injuries, including 111 serious cases.

The Directorate stated in a communiqué that the main causes of these accidents were attributed to several factors, notably:

  • Driver inattention
  • Failure to respect priority
  • Excessive speed
  • Pedestrian negligence
  • Failure to maintain safe distance
  • Poor vehicle control
  • Changing direction without signaling
  • Running red lights
  • Driving in prohibited directions
  • Drunk driving
  • Dangerous overtaking

Regarding traffic control and violation enforcement, security services recorded 46,102 violations, of which 8,228 cases were referred to the public prosecutor’s office, while 37,874 transactional fines were paid.

The statement added that the total collected fines amounted to 8,383,325 dirhams, while 4,292 vehicles were impounded and 280 others were immobilized.
