Spain Flood Tragedy: Two Moroccans Dead and 25 Missing in Valencia Region

The Moroccan Consul in Valencia, Spain, has confirmed at least two deaths from the Moroccan community, one injury, and 25 other Moroccans missing due to the severe floods that struck southeastern Spain.

In response to this natural disaster, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates announced the activation of a central crisis cell, along with the establishment of crisis cells in the Kingdom’s consulates general in Valencia, Madrid, and Seville.

The Moroccan Consulate General in Valencia has dedicated two emergency numbers (+34 631 935 818 / +34 631 711 873), while the Ministry has set up toll-free numbers for the consular call center (0800009948/49/50) for inquiries about missing persons or loss of contact with family members.

In related developments, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced the deployment of an additional 10,000 soldiers and police officers to southeastern Spain to assist victims and search for missing persons. Sánchez described this disaster as “the largest natural catastrophe in modern Spanish history,” confirming that the death toll has reached 211 people so far, with search operations for missing persons still ongoing.

The Moroccan consulates general continue their constant coordination with Spanish central and local authorities, as well as with local Moroccan associations, to gather all information about the situation of Moroccans in the affected areas and provide them with necessary assistance.
