The monthly report from the Foreign Exchange Office, released on Tuesday, October 1, indicates a notable increase in remittances from Moroccans living abroad, rising by 3.9% compared to the same period last year.
Data reveals that remittances reached a record high in the first eight months of 2023, totaling 115.15 billion dirhams, up from 110.72 billion dirhams at the end of 2022.
In a related context, Bank Al-Maghrib projected during its meeting on September 24 that remittances from Moroccans abroad would grow by 5.2% this year, reaching 118.2 billion dirhams.
Remittances from the Moroccan diaspora are considered one of the most important sources of foreign currency for Morocco, with expectations to hit 384.3 billion dirhams this year, factoring in the potential issuance of bonds in international markets.
These remittances play a vital role in supporting the national economy and enhancing financial stability.
