The Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Morocco has announced the postponement of the 4th edition of the International Public Health Conference in Africa, which was initially scheduled for November 2024.
This decision follows an official request from the Director General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), Dr. Jean Kaseya.
The decision was made after Dr. Kaseya’s official visit to Morocco on Friday, September 13, 2024, where he met with Morocco’s Minister of Health and Social Protection, Professor Khalid Ait Taleb.
Dr. Kaseya explained that the African continent is currently facing significant health challenges, particularly the outbreak of the MFOX virus, which has affected several countries, including Morocco, which recently recorded its first case.
The Africa CDC Director General emphasized that addressing this epidemic requires coordinated international efforts, leading him to formally request the Moroccan government to postpone the conference to next year, allowing a stronger focus on the ongoing health crisis.
The Moroccan Ministry of Health expressed its full understanding and support for this decision, reaffirming Morocco’s commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to continue collaborating with African nations and international partners to tackle health crises and strengthen the continent’s health sovereignty.
The Ministry added that it will announce the new date for the conference in coordination with the African Union and the Africa CDC at a later time.
