First Case of Monkeypox Confirmed in Morocco

The Moroccan Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced on Thursday, September 12, 2024, the confirmation of the first case of monkeypox (M-pox) in the kingdom.

In an official statement, the ministry explained that the case was discovered as part of the health protocol adopted in Morocco since the beginning of the global health alert related to this disease. The ministry confirmed that the patient is receiving necessary medical care at a specialized medical center in Marrakech, noting that his health condition is stable and not cause for concern.

The statement added that the patient is receiving appropriate medical care in accordance with established health procedures and is under close medical supervision to ensure the stability of his condition. Health isolation measures and necessary medical follow-up have been activated in accordance with national and international health standards.

The ministry emphasized that this announcement comes within the framework of the national system for vigilance and epidemiological monitoring, and in implementation of its communication policy aimed at informing the public about health developments in the country.

It is worth noting that this is the first officially recorded case of monkeypox in Morocco since the global spread of the disease began. Health authorities are urging citizens to adhere to preventive measures and to contact relevant health authorities if any suspicious symptoms appear.

The ministry’s proactive approach in detecting and managing this case demonstrates Morocco’s readiness to deal with emerging health challenges. This incident also highlights the importance of maintaining vigilance and continuing public health measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
