A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the commune of Amatar, Chefchaouen Province, Morocco, resulting in the death of four people, three of whom were from the same family, and injuring several others, including an 11-year-old girl.
According to preliminary information, the accident happened when a car carrying a family en route to the commune of Amatar, located on the Mediterranean coast, veered off the road and plunged into a dangerous ravine.
Local sources reported that the four victims, who died instantly, were a girl, her mother, her grandmother, and their companion who was originally from Amtar. An 11-year-old girl was seriously injured and was urgently transported by ambulance to the Mohammed V Provincial Hospital Center in Chefchaouen.
Local sources specified that the accident took place on the road connecting Amatar (near El Jebha) to Beni Rzine (Ketama). This road is known for its dangerousness and has recently undergone repairs that local residents consider insufficient.
Elements of the Royal Gendarmerie from the El Jebha region, accompanied by Civil Protection services, rushed to the accident site to open an investigation to determine the circumstances and causes of this tragedy.
It’s worth noting that the same region has experienced accidents due to the first rains, but fortunately without human casualties.
The tragic incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in the region, particularly on routes known for their hazardous conditions. It also underscores the importance of adequate road maintenance and repair to prevent such devastating accidents in the future.
