Rabat – Bank Al-Maghrib (the Central Bank of Morocco) has announced the introduction of a new 50 dirham banknote into circulation starting Tuesday, as part of the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne.
In a statement, Bank Al-Maghrib explained that the new banknote is part of a new series of banknotes and coins, highlighting Morocco’s commitment to sustainable development through the national strategy for clean energy and protection of natural resources.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom’s coat of arms, along with an architectural motif inspired by Moroccan doors and a stylized view of the Ouzoud waterfalls. The reverse side includes stylized views of the “NOOR” Solar Power Station in Ouarzazate, wind turbines, the Ouirgane dam, and the seawater desalination plant in Agadir.
The statement added that the new banknote incorporates the most advanced security technologies, such as a security thread with dynamic color-changing effect, an iridescent strip on the reverse, a front/back registration pattern, embossed patterns that visually impaired individuals can distinguish, and numbering with progressive characters.
The bank concluded by emphasizing that all stages of designing and producing this new banknote were carried out exclusively by Moroccan expertise at Dar As-Sikkah (the Moroccan Mint).
This initiative reflects Morocco’s commitment to sustainable development and innovation in currency, while simultaneously celebrating the country’s achievements under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
