Tata, Morocco: As part of the humanitarian activities parallel to the Moroccan-American joint military exercise ‘African Lion 2024’, organised under the high instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, a field surgical hospital (H.M.C.C.) was deployed in the community of Aga in the Tata region.
The hospital, staffed by medical teams of doctors and nurses from the Royal Armed Forces and the US Army, provides free medical, surgical and social services to the local population.
Comprehensive medical services:
This multidisciplinary medical facility has been providing medical and surgical services since May 16, including cardiology, otolaryngology, paediatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics, radiology, dentistry and ophthalmology, said Colonel Khaled Fattouh, chief physician at the field hospital, in a statement to MAP.
Impressive figures:
As of 25 May, the hospital has provided about 28,000 medical services to 7,600 patients, the doctor said, noting that 122 surgeries have been performed, eyeglasses have been distributed to 1,213 people, medicines to 5,600 people, and 17 people have been vaccinated against measles.
Wide international participation:
Africa Lion 2024, the largest military exercise ever held in Africa, involves nearly 7,000 members of the armed forces of more than 20 countries, as well as the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), in addition to the Royal Armed Forces and the US Army.
Strengthening military co-operation:
The ‘African Lion 2024’ exercise aims to enhance co-operation and co-ordination between participating countries, develop their capabilities in the field of joint military operations and counter-terrorism, and exchange expertise and experiences in the fields of planning, command and control.
Historic cooperation:
This 20th edition of the African Lion exercise reflects the depth of the historical and strong relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America, and reflects the commitment of the two countries to promote security and stability in the region.
