Yesterday, Monday, the Ras El Ma Local Prison in Fez hosted a celebration marking the 16th anniversary of the establishment of the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Rehabilitation. The event was attended by Mr. Azzedine Shafik, the regional director of prison administration and rehabilitation for the Fez-Meknes region, as well as representatives from the judiciary, security authorities, external agencies, and civil society associations.
During the ceremony, the achievements of the delegation over the past years were highlighted, particularly in the humanization of detention conditions and the improvement of nutrition, cleanliness, healthcare, and psychological care for prisoners, as well as the promotion of rights-based approaches within the prison environment.
The role played by the delegation in rehabilitating prisoners and reintegrating them into society was also emphasized, through various training and rehabilitation programs, including education, vocational training, cultural activities, and sports.
In his speech on the occasion, Mr. Azzedine Shafik reiterated the delegation’s commitment to continue improving the conditions of prisoners and enhancing their rights, within the framework of respecting the law and implementing relevant international standards.
The ceremony also included the honoring of some outstanding employees of the Ras El Ma Local Prison, in recognition of their conduct, performance, and efforts in carrying out their duties within this prison institution, as well as the posthumous honoring of an employee who passed away during the past year.
This event provided an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Rehabilitation to improve the conditions of prisoners and enhance their rights, within the framework of respecting the law and implementing relevant international standards.
