Urban Irregularities in the City of Al-Manzel Raise Safety Concerns… Observatory Calls for Urgent Intervention and Urban Regulation

The Moroccan Consumer Protection Observatory has warned of the repercussions of what it described as alarming urban conditions in several neighborhoods of the city of Al-Manzel, in Sefrou Province, considering that the way urban space is managed has produced accumulated irregularities that now pose a direct threat to the safety of residents and their property.

According to information received by Fes News, the observatory reported that manifestations of disorderly use of spaces adjacent to residential buildings have worsened in recent years. This includes the spread of abandoned or unregulated constructions, as well as the growth of plants and trees within shared spaces without respect for technical standards, and in the absence of effective monitoring by the competent authorities.

The same source stressed that the seriousness of the situation is not limited to its negative impact on the urban landscape, but extends to real structural risks. The penetration of roots, water leakage, and humidity can weaken the concrete foundations of buildings, accelerating the appearance of cracks and fissures that may develop into potential collapses—especially in neighborhoods with fragile infrastructure.

In this context, the observatory recorded its observations regarding the performance of successive municipal councils, considering that the lack of regular interventions to organize green spaces, monitor shared areas, and address buildings at risk of collapse raises serious questions about the effectiveness of local governance mechanisms related to public safety.

The observatory further emphasized that the continuation of this situation places direct responsibility on the territorial municipality and local authorities in the event of material or human damage, calling for urgent action aimed at removing sources of danger, rehabilitating urban spaces, and adopting a preventive approach based on compliance with safety standards and sustainable urban planning.

The observatory also called for the opening of an audit procedure to identify the causes of the existing irregularities and determine responsibilities, stressing that addressing these issues requires practical decisions that place citizens’ safety at the top of priorities and restore the value of orderly urban planning in the city of Al-Manzel.
