Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security welcomed an official delegation from the Federal Bureau of Investigation as part of a working visit held from January 4 to 6, aimed at reviewing the security and safety framework implemented during the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco.
The U.S. delegation includes senior officials specializing in field operations and emergency management. The visit began with a field tour of Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, coinciding with the match between the Morocco national football team and the Tanzania national football team, allowing the delegation to closely observe the various security measures in place inside and around the stadium.
The tour included an assessment of the deployment of security teams, surveillance levels, and the use of modern technological tools, notably high-definition camera systems and drones. The delegation also examined electronic coordination and communication mechanisms between different security units, whether through fixed or mobile command centers.
In the same context, the U.S. officials visited the African Security Cooperation Center, which plays a coordinating role between Moroccan security services and representatives of police agencies from African countries participating in the tournament. Members of the delegation reviewed the center’s operating methods and its technical and logistical equipment, and took part in an evaluation session of the security arrangements related to the Morocco–Tanzania match.
The visit program is expected to include an additional stop at Moulay Hassan Stadium, coinciding with the match between Algeria national football team and the DR Congo national football team. During this visit, the delegation will observe procedures for securing access for foreign supporters, operational coordination mechanisms between Morocco’s national security services and foreign police officers working within the African Security Cooperation Center, as well as on-site fan liaison officers (spotters).
According to available information, this visit reflects U.S. interest in examining the elements behind the success of Morocco’s experience in securing major sporting events, particularly as the United States prepares to host the FIFA World Cup 2026. The preparations include requirements for establishing international security cooperation centers in line with FIFA standards.
The visit also underscores a shared desire to strengthen bilateral security cooperation between Morocco and the United States through the exchange of expertise in risk assessment, emergency response, and the use of modern technologies in the security field—especially in relation to safeguarding major sporting events—as both countries prepare to host consecutive editions of the FIFA World Cup 2030.
