Will Hakimi be in the starting XI? Coach Walid Regragui teases ahead of “tough” Mali clash (Video)

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui reiterated that the Atlas Lions’ main objective remains winning and collecting points, expressing the technical staff’s desire to secure qualification as early as possible, starting with the upcoming Group Stage match against Mali in the second round of AFCON Morocco 2025.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Regragui said he was satisfied with the team’s performance in the previous game, while noting that certain details still need correcting so the side can appear more balanced and effective in the matches ahead.

On squad fitness, the coach said there were no alarming concerns within the group. He confirmed that Nayef Aguerd is fit and training normally, while Romain Saïss has a muscle injury that could rule him out. Achraf Hakimi, he added, is continuing his treatment program, and his participation will depend on his readiness.

In attack, Regragui said he has not yet decided who will start as the center-forward, explaining that the final decision is made on match day based on physical and tactical considerations, stressing that any player who gets the opportunity must contribute and help deliver a positive result.

Regarding Mali, the national team coach described the opponent as “always capable of causing problems” due to their qualities, pace, and attacking style. He added that Morocco–Mali matchups are typically highly competitive, and that the outcome will favor the side that manages the details best.

Morocco will face Mali on Friday, December 26, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, in a match that could bring the Atlas Lions closer to qualification if they secure a win.

Fes News says it will continue to follow updates related to the national team and will refresh match information as soon as any additional official statements are issued.
