Youssoufia: Police Officer Uses Service Weapon and Injures Agitated Person in Lower Extremities

A police officer working with the unit responsible for securing the perimeter of educational institutions in the Youssoufia Provincial Security Zone was forced to use his service weapon in a security intervention to stop a person with a criminal record (44 years old) who was in an abnormal state and subjected police officers to a serious attack by throwing stones.

Incident Details

A specialized security patrol tasked with protecting schools had intervened to verify the identity of the suspect after apprehending him in a clearly disturbed state near one of the educational institutions.

However, the individual completely refused to comply and immediately began violently and continuously throwing stones at patrol members, posing a direct threat to their safety and the safety of nearby students and educational staff.

Given the seriousness of the situation, a police superintendent fired a warning shot into the air, then shot the suspect in the lower extremities to repel the danger and stop him.

Intervention Results

  • The suspect was controlled and apprehended without injuries among police officers or citizens.
  • A bladed weapon (knife) and a piece of cannabis resin were seized in his possession.
  • The individual was immediately transported to Youssoufia Provincial Hospital to receive necessary treatment and placed under medical monitoring and security guard.

Suspect’s Background

Initial investigation data indicates that the detainee had previously been subjected to a period of medical confinement in the mental illness department at the local hospital in 2017, suggesting the possible presence of a psychological disorder.

Investigation Procedures

The suspect was referred to judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecution to determine all circumstances and details of the case, as well as the nature of his psychological and criminal condition.
