Fez – As part of the significant recovery being witnessed in Morocco’s aviation and tourism sector, Moroccan authorities continue implementing expansion and modernization projects at Fez-Saïss International Airport, in preparation for receiving millions of additional tourists in the coming years, within the ambitious national plan “Airports 2030”.
Moroccan airports recorded a milestone during the first ten months of 2025, reaching 23.9 million passengers, with a notable increase in both international and domestic flights, reflecting a strong return of demand for travel and tourism following the COVID-19 pandemic.
To keep pace with this accelerated growth, the National Airports Office launched a strategic plan aimed at raising the total capacity of Moroccan airports to 80 million passengers annually by 2030. Fez-Saïss Airport is one of the main airports benefiting from this plan, alongside Casablanca (35 million passengers), Marrakech, Tangier, Agadir, and Rabat airports.
The expansion works at Fez-Saïss Airport include upgrading infrastructure, increasing capacity, and improving the level of services provided to passengers, in line with international standards for safety and comfort. These projects aim to enhance the attractiveness of the city of Fez and the region as a major tourist and cultural destination, and facilitate access for European tourists, particularly from France, Spain, Italy, and Belgium.
In the same context, Morocco is accompanying the development of aviation infrastructure with the launch of an integrated aviation industry that includes aircraft parts manufacturing, maintenance centers, and logistical support, which strengthens the Kingdom’s position as a regional aviation hub and creates thousands of new job opportunities.
Despite challenges related to meeting deadlines, maintaining service quality, and keeping ticket prices competitive, expectations remain positive, as Morocco is anticipated to transform by 2030 into a major aviation and industrial hub connecting Africa with Europe and the world, with Fez-Saïss Airport playing a prominent role in attracting tourists to the Kingdom’s scientific and heritage capital.
The success of these projects will contribute to strengthening local economic development in the Fez-Meknes region and cementing Morocco’s position as a vital air gateway between the two continents.
