Somalia Renews Its Support for Moroccan Sahara During Official Meeting in Rabat

The Federal Republic of Somalia renewed, yesterday Thursday, November 28, 2025, its steadfast support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, affirming its principled position in favor of the Moroccanness of the Sahara and its support for the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco as a realistic and mutually acceptable solution. Somalia also praised the efforts Morocco is making within the UN Security Council and called for adopting the UN process in accordance with Resolution 2797.

This confirmation came during an official meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and his Somali counterpart Mr. Ahmed Omer Jama Abubaker, where both sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and coordinate positions on shared regional and international issues.

During this meeting, the two ministers emphasized the importance of strengthening diplomatic and strategic relations between Rabat and Mogadishu, especially in light of the geopolitical transformations the region is witnessing. The officials also pointed to the need to elevate the level of economic and security partnership in a way that serves the interests of both countries.

The Somali Foreign Minister confirmed, at the conclusion of the talks, his country’s commitment to “full respect for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco,” expressing Somalia’s desire to continue joint work and support the regional momentum led by Morocco.

This Somali position comes to reinforce a series of international and African positions supporting the Moroccanness of the Sahara in recent years, reflecting Morocco’s growing role on the African continent and at the international level.
