Marrakech: Spanish National Police Director Describes Security Relations with Morocco as “Model of Effectiveness and Cooperation”

Marrakech – November 26, 2025

The Director General of the Spanish National Police, Francisco Pardo Piqueras, confirmed today, Wednesday, that security relations between Morocco and Spain constitute “a model of effectiveness and cooperation,” praising the “excellent” level reached by the partnership between the two sides in the fields of counterterrorism, organized crime, and human trafficking networks.

Mr. Piqueras’s statements came following bilateral talks he held with the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, on the sidelines of the 93rd session of the Interpol General Assembly held in Marrakech (November 24-27, 2025).

The Spanish official added in a statement to the press: “We are very satisfied with the existing cooperation in the security field, and we constantly seek to enhance information exchange and implement joint operations to combat organized crime and terrorism more effectively.” He emphasized that confronting shared threats requires “joint effort based on two fundamental principles: respect and mutual trust.”

Piqueras also praised the “magnificent” organization of the Interpol General Assembly in Marrakech, considering that this global event – which brings together more than 800 delegates from 179 countries, including 82 security directors – will have “very positive effects” on strengthening international police cooperation worldwide.

It should be noted that these statements come in the context of the positive momentum in Moroccan-Spanish relations since Madrid’s announcement of its explicit support for the autonomy initiative as a realistic and serious solution to the Sahara issue, which has been positively reflected in security and intelligence cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
