Hammouchi: Morocco’s Keenness to Host the 93rd Session of INTERPOL’s General Assembly Stems from Its Firm Commitment to Strengthening International Security Cooperation

Marrakech – November 24, 2025

The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Mr. Abdellatif Hammouchi, emphasized today, Monday, during the opening session of the 93rd General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) held in Marrakech, that the Kingdom of Morocco’s keenness to host this major international event reflects its firm and steadfast commitment to strengthening multilateral security cooperation and its serious engagement in reinforcing the international alliance to confront the dangers of transnational organized crime.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Hammouchi stated: “This steadfast position derives its foundation from the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI – may God grant him victory and support – who considers security a collective blessing and shared responsibility that can only be preserved through consolidating institutional cooperation and community partnerships on one hand, and strengthening solidarity and international cooperation on the other.”

He highlighted that Morocco’s National Security services have developed an integrated security strategy that combines maintaining security with respecting human rights, placing citizen service and ensuring their safety at the core of police functions, emphasizing that current security challenges – from the spread of virtual criminal networks to the interconnection of regional terrorist entities – make it essential to establish indivisible joint security structures, in close coordination with INTERPOL and relevant regional organizations.

Mr. Hammouchi also pointed out that achieving collective security requires developing national security institutions and modernizing their operational mechanisms to meet citizens’ expectations, while intensifying mutual assistance between states, affirming the pivotal role that INTERPOL plays in facilitating international police cooperation and bridging relations between law enforcement agencies in 196 member states.

He added that the emergence of new criminal patterns exploiting modern technology, and the transformation of cybercrime into a form of “hybrid warfare” targeting the destabilization of states, places doubled responsibilities on INTERPOL and national security agencies.

In the same context, Mr. Hammouchi welcomed the current session’s agenda, which addresses new challenges, particularly:

  • Launching new global police capabilities for INTERPOL,
  • Strengthening the organization’s regional presence and operational impact,
  • Encouraging states to ratify the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime,
  • Dedicating significant attention to the role of women in police work and drawing lessons from female leadership to effect real change in security systems.

He concluded his remarks by affirming Morocco’s full confidence in the success of this session’s proceedings, reiterating the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with INTERPOL’s General Secretariat and all member states, based on a firm conviction that “security is a shared cost and collective gain that everyone should contribute to achieving, preserving, and sustaining.”
