The Observatory, which is considered a leading civil organization in the field of awareness and cybersecurity, described this intervention as a “decisive step” toward protecting digital data and information, while emphasizing the need to strengthen cooperation between security and civil authorities to counter growing cyber threats.
Elements of the Provincial Judicial Police Service in the city of Marrakech had managed, in coordination with the services of the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, on Saturday, November 15, to arrest five foreign nationals, four Belarusians and one French citizen. The arrest came on suspicion of their involvement in a case related to violating automated data processing systems and hacking online betting applications.
Details of the Security Operation and Its Results
Preliminary investigation data indicates the involvement of four of the suspects in hacking applications specialized in online betting, followed by operations to transfer funds from hacking proceeds to personal accounts. This was done in collusion with the fifth suspect, the French national, who was arrested during a security operation carried out at a villa in the “Tasseltante” area on the outskirts of Marrakech.
Search procedures executed in the homes used by the suspects in the city of Marrakech resulted in the seizure of computer equipment, digital storage media, and internet access devices. These seized items are currently undergoing necessary technical examinations at the digital forensics laboratory of the General Directorate of National Security.
Judicial Investigation Procedures
The suspects were subjected to judicial investigation procedures under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the aim of uncovering all circumstances, details, and backgrounds related to this case. The investigation also aims to identify any potential extensions of this criminal activity, whether at the national or international level.
