Rabat – November 11, 2025 – The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal issued a joint statement today, Tuesday, in which Senegal praised the historic adoption by the UN Security Council of Resolution 2797, which enshrines the relevance of the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom of Morocco, considering it the only serious, credible, and sustainable basis for reaching a political settlement to the fabricated dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

Details of the Joint Statement and its Diplomatic Significance

The statement, issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, affirmed that Resolution 2797, adopted by the Security Council on October 31, 2025, reinforces the positive momentum launched by the two round tables in Geneva and emphasizes the role of the United Nations in facilitating a constructive political process. It also stressed that the Moroccan plan represents a realistic and balanced solution that preserves Moroccan sovereignty while guaranteeing the rights of the local population.

For its part, Senegal expressed its steadfast support for Morocco in this context, praising Moroccan efforts in promoting economic and social development in the southern provinces, and confirming that this resolution reflects growing international recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. The statement highlighted that the partnership between the two countries, whose roots trace back to the historic royal visit by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Dakar in 2015, is manifested in solid economic, commercial, and political cooperation, with a focus on joint projects in agriculture, energy, and education.

Context of Bilateral Cooperation and its Impact on Regional Stability

The statement noted that Moroccan-Senegalese relations have witnessed remarkable development since the signing of partnership agreements in 2021, including the opening of direct air routes and the enhancement of trade exchange, which reached hundreds of millions of dollars in transaction volume. It also emphasized Senegal’s role as a strategic partner in supporting Moroccan positions on the African and international stage, particularly within the framework of the African Union and the United Nations.

In conclusion, both countries renewed their commitment to strengthening South-South cooperation, calling for respect for Security Council resolutions as the basis for any political solution, and warning against any attempts to obstruct the peaceful process. This statement comes at a time when the Sahara dispute is witnessing growing international support for the Moroccan approach, which strengthens the Kingdom’s position as a regional hub for stability and development.
