The Ministry of National Education, Early Education and Sports announced on Wednesday, October 29, its decision to raise the age limit for candidates to enter the Regional Centers for Education and Training Professions to 35 years at the date of the exam, after it was previously set at 30 years in recent years.
According to a statement from the Ministry, this decision comes within the framework of expanding the pool of applicants wishing to join the teaching profession and responding to the aspirations of many young graduates who have been unable to participate in previous exams due to the age limit.
The 30-year age requirement in recent years stirred wide debate among young people and university students, as it was seen as depriving a large group of graduates—those who spent years studying or seeking employment—of the chance to join the teaching profession. Many observers considered that this requirement formed a barrier for qualified national competencies who possess both the desire and the skills to serve the education sector.
Observers see that raising the age ceiling to 35 is a positive step that could restore hope to broad segments of youth wishing to join the teaching profession and could help strengthen human resources within the education system, in line with the goals of educational reform and the strategy to renew the educational staff’s competencies in Morocco.
