French Presidency announced on Sunday evening the new government lineup under Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, following his appointment after the resignation of François Bayrou due to his failure to secure parliamentary confidence, according to Le Monde newspaper.
The new cabinet includes two female ministers of Moroccan origin: Rachida Dati, who retained her post as Minister of Culture, and Naïma Moutchou, appointed as Minister of Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence.
This reshuffle aims to overcome political gridlock and restore stability in France. President Emmanuel Macron retained 13 ministers from the previous government to ensure continuity, while introducing fresh faces to rejuvenate the executive branch.
Among notable changes, Bruno Le Maire moved from Minister of Economy and Finance to Minister of Defense, and Roland Lescure took over Economy and Finance. Catherine Vautrin was appointed Minister of Labour, Health, and Solidarity, while Jean-Noël Barrot assumed the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. The government also appointed Agnès Pannier-Runacher as Minister of Environment, Biodiversity, and Seas, and Amélie de Montchalin as Minister of Public Accounts, along with several other new and returning ministers in portfolios including transport, sports, youth, equality, and parliamentary relations.
Prime Minister Lecornu is expected to present his government program and reform priorities in the coming days amid pressing economic and political challenges, most notably a financial deficit and difficulties passing the 2026 budget in a divided parliament. Meanwhile, opposition parties demand a government capable of forging genuine consensus to guarantee political and economic stability in France.
