Casablanca – Following the unauthorized protests that took place in some Moroccan cities last Saturday, judicial authorities in Casablanca announced the arrest of an individual involved in disseminating manipulated content to incite the public to take to the streets.
According to a statement issued by the Public Prosecutor at the Casablanca Criminal Court, investigations by judicial police revealed that the detainee managed several social media accounts where he posted images and videos of protests and violent events from foreign countries. He manipulated these by blending them with scenes from protests inside Morocco, aiming to stir public opinion and encourage demonstrations on September 27 and 28, 2025.
The statement further explained that the suspect’s main objective was to expand his follower base on social media. He succeeded in attracting around 4,000 followers within three days and aimed to reach 20,000 followers to establish a profitable digital platform. It was noted that his intention was less about calling for protests and more about gathering followers and generating financial gain from his activity.
Searches of the suspect’s personal computer uncovered numerous videos of past and recent protests abroad, which he repackaged and broadcast on his accounts to maximize views and followers.
Due to the severity of these actions, the individual was placed under judicial custody for questioning. After being brought before the public prosecution, he was charged with inciting the commission of crimes and misdemeanors through electronic means. He was subsequently referred to court in pre-trial detention.
