The Moroccan royal family, along with the Moroccan people, celebrate on Monday the birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Asmaa. This occasion highlights the various social initiatives led by Her Royal Highness and her unwavering commitment to improving the conditions of children with special needs, particularly deaf and mute children.
Known for her great compassion, Princess Lalla Asmaa has been engaged in social activism from a young age, consistently devoted to the welfare of deaf and mute children and undertaking initiatives aimed at facilitating their integration into society as full citizens.
As President of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, Her Royal Highness closely supports this vulnerable group, providing invaluable assistance to this pioneering institution in caring for these children.
For several decades, the foundation has offered specialized education based on the national primary and secondary curriculum, providing beneficiaries with technical support such as digital hearing aids, cochlear implants, and electronic transmission systems that enhance their adaptation and help them overcome isolation.
The foundation’s first graduate class benefited, since the 2018 school year, from partnership agreements with the Faculty of Sciences in Rabat and the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fez. This has expanded access to higher education for these students and those who will follow.
Vocational training is also provided, including courses in embroidery, weaving, hairdressing, and plastic arts, preparing students for specialties integrated into professional training centers within the handicraft sector.
Princess Lalla Asmaa’s unwavering support for deaf and mute children exemplifies her constant dedication to social and charitable initiatives.
This year has witnessed several of Her Royal Highness’s activities. On July 27, she warmly welcomed at Rabat-Salé Airport the First Lady of the Republic of El Salvador, Mrs. Gabriela Rodriguez De Bukele, who was on an official visit to Morocco.
The next day, Princess Lalla Asmaa and Mrs. Gabriela Rodriguez De Bukele visited the headquarters of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation in Rabat. On the same day, Her Royal Highness presided over a luncheon hosted by King Mohammed VI at the Royal Guest Palace in Rabat in honor of Mrs. Bukele.
On June 14, Princess Lalla Asmaa presided over the closing ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year at the foundation’s headquarters. Moreover, on May 2, she visited Gallaudet University in Washington, the world’s only institution fully dedicated to educating deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals from early childhood through doctoral studies.
During this visit, Princess Lalla Asmaa chaired the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between Gallaudet University and the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, reflecting her strong and ongoing commitment to improving the lives of deaf and hard-of-hearing children in Morocco, providing them with an educational environment that respects their uniqueness while ensuring their full integration into society.
On February 20, she also presided over the launch ceremony of the third edition of the “United, We Hear Better” program at the Ibn Sina University Hospital Center’s Specialty Hospital in Rabat.
Additionally, on October 29 of the previous year, King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, Prince Moulay Rachid, and Her Royal Highnesses Princesses Lalla Khadija, Lalla Meryem, Lalla Asmaa, and Lalla Hasnaa, hosted an official dinner in honor of French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Mrs. Brigitte Macron.
Cultural and sporting activities are also close to Her Royal Highness’s heart; she serves as the Honorary President of the Society for the Protection of Animals and Nature.
As the birthday of Princess Lalla Asmaa is celebrated, the Moroccan people pay tribute to a deeply committed princess who, through her well-known kindness and humanitarianism, has left an enduring mark on social action benefiting hard-of-hearing children.
