Nasser Al-Zefzafi Participates in Funeral of His Late Father Ahmed Al-Zefzafi in Al Hoceima Amid a Moving Human Moment

On Wednesday evening, the city of Al Hoceima witnessed an exceptional human moment as Nasser Al-Zefzafi, the leader of the Al Hoceima events, took part in the funeral of his late father, Ahmed Al-Zefzafi, with a large gathering of mourners near the family home.

During the occasion, Al-Zefzafi delivered a speech in which he affirmed that his thoughts and views “stem from his concern for the interests and progress of the homeland,” noting that being among his family and mourners was “a blessing from God.” He also expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the General Delegation for Prison Administration, which facilitated an exceptional permit for him to leave his cell in Tangier 2 Prison and travel to Al Hoceima to attend the mourning and funeral ceremonies.

In his speech, Al-Zefzafi said, “I am not one to fear for my belongings from people, and I fully understand the difficulty of the procedures I underwent to be able to be here among you,” expressing special thanks to the General Delegate of Prison Administration, Mohamed Salah Tamek, for the “great effort” that enabled him to participate in his father’s farewell.

A large number of the city’s residents reacted warmly to this human scene, eagerly offering condolences to the Al-Zefzafi family in a gesture that carries significant humanitarian and political connotations, especially since it comes after years of Al-Zefzafi’s imprisonment following the 2016-2017 Al Hoceima events.

Nasser Al-Zefzafi arrived at his family home in an unmarked civilian car, without handcuffs, accompanied by only a few security personnel—no more than two police officers according to circulated videos—which suggests hints of a potential imminent royal pardon, God willing.

It is worth noting that had Al-Zefzafi been imprisoned in another Arab country with a repressive regime, the scene would have been entirely different, with heavy security forces deployed around his home, accompanied by armored vehicles and tight guards, and perhaps his arrival in an armored military vehicle, with his convoy followed by dozens of security cars. Even if the authorities had agreed to his release for humanitarian reasons, it would have been accompanied by an unprecedented security campaign.
