By Royal Decree: Major General Abdellah Boutrig Appointed Director General of Cybersecurity in Morocco

Rabat, Morocco – In a move that reflects Morocco’s strategic focus on cybersecurity, King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, has appointed Major General Abdellah Boutrig as the new Director General of the General Directorate of Information Systems Security (DGSSI).

This appointment comes as Morocco’s reliance on digitalization grows, making the protection of national cyberspace a fundamental pillar of the kingdom’s digital transformation.

A Distinguished Professional and Academic Career

Major General Abdellah Boutrig has a rich professional and academic background. He graduated as an engineer from the National Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics (INSEA) and is also a graduate of the Royal Military Academy in Meknes (Class of 1987). He further enhanced his academic qualifications with a diploma from the Staff and Higher Defense Course, in addition to a Master’s degree in Security and Defense from the Royal College of Higher Military Studies.

Major General Boutrig has held numerous leadership positions within the DGSSI, including director of Assistance, Training, Supervision, and Expertise. He also served as Deputy Inspector of Communications for the Royal Armed Forces, which provided him with extensive experience in the fields of cybersecurity and national defense.

This choice underscores Morocco’s commitment to strengthening its capabilities in confronting increasing digital challenges by relying on specialized military expertise in this vital field.
