Morocco’s Airports: A 38 Billion Dirham Investment Plan for 2025-2030

Rabat, Morocco – Last Thursday in Rabat, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the government and the National Airports Office (ONDA), aiming to implement a comprehensive investment plan for the period between 2025 and 2030, with total investments reaching 38 billion dirhams.

The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, presided over the signing ceremony of this strategic agreement. Under this protocol, 25 billion dirhams will be allocated to develop the capacity of the airports in Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier, and Fez. The plan also includes the construction of a new “hub” terminal and a new runway at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca.

In parallel, 13 billion dirhams will be dedicated to maintenance, modernization, and land acquisition to ensure the continuity and efficiency of the national airport network.

Commenting on the agreement, Mr. Akhannouch emphasized that this protocol is part of the effort to keep pace with the dynamics of development and prepare the air transport sector to meet Morocco’s aspirations and upcoming challenges. He added that this plan reinforces the Kingdom’s position as a regional platform and international air hub, contributing to equipping the country with modern infrastructure that serves economic growth, territorial integration, and social inclusion, in implementation of the High Royal Directives.

The agreement aims to establish a modern, resilient, and sustainable airport model, in line with the “Airport 2030” strategy. This strategy was designed to accompany the growth of Royal Air Maroc, absorb the increasing air traffic, and strengthen airport infrastructure as a key driver for the development of several sectors, especially tourism, in anticipation of Morocco’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup and the post-2030 horizon.

The protocol was signed by the Minister of Tourism, the Minister of Transport, the Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, in addition to the Director-General of the National Agency for Strategic Management of State Participations and the Director-General of the National Airports Office.
