Bab Sebta Crossing: Dutch National and Two Moroccan Women Arrested, Large Quantities of Cannabis Seized

Fnideq, Morocco – As part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, Moroccan police and customs conducted several significant operations at the Bab Sebta border crossing last Saturday, resulting in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of large quantities of cannabis. These operations come in the context of enhanced border surveillance to counter increasing smuggling attempts.

According to Spanish sources, the first operation involved the arrest of a 61-year-old Dutch national. He was found with 5.4 kilograms of cannabis carefully hidden in the dashboard of his car. The suspect was immediately detained, and his car was confiscated.

In another operation, authorities managed to arrest two Moroccan women, aged 24, one of whom resides abroad. More than 81 kilograms of cannabis were found in their possession, concealed in a secret compartment in the floor of their car. The two women are currently being questioned on charges of drug trafficking.

The judicial police are conducting extensive investigations to determine if these cases are linked to an international criminal network. Sources indicate that the sophisticated smuggling methods and the coordination of the two seizures may point to the existence of an organized criminal group.

The Bab Sebta border crossing remains a strategic point used by drug networks to smuggle cannabis to Europe. Moroccan authorities are intensifying surveillance, especially with the launch of “Operation Marhaba” which aims to facilitate the return of the Moroccan diaspora residing abroad, to prevent any criminal exploitation of the borders.
