The 2025 Academic Development Index ranks four Moroccan researchers among the top 200 scientists globally

The latest release of the 2025 Academic Development Index announced the ranking of four Moroccan researchers among the world’s top 200 scientists, reflecting the prestigious level of Moroccan scientific research on the international stage.

Leading these researchers is Dr. Abdessalam Hamada, Professor of Physics at Hassan II University in Casablanca, who ranked 40th globally due to his outstanding contributions in particle physics, particularly through his work at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Hamada is among the few who have surpassed an H-index of 250, with more than 392,000 citations, underscoring the impact and wide recognition of his research.

The ranking also included Dr. Driss Benchakroun at 131st place, Dr. Farida El Fassi—considered the first Moroccan woman to enter the global top 200—at 169th, and Dr. Rajaa Cherkaoui El Moursli at 182nd, both affiliated with Mohammed V University in Rabat. Additionally, six other Moroccan scientists were listed among the national top 10 in various fields including nuclear physics, electrochemistry, and sustainable agriculture.

This scientific distinction reflects the advancement of Moroccan research in the natural sciences and signals the emergence of national figures in prestigious international scientific centers. This achievement further strengthens Morocco’s position as a global scientific hub, demonstrating the ability of Moroccan researchers to compete and innovate at the highest levels of international research.
