Security services in Tangier arrested on Wednesday the deputy head of Mghougha district and placed him under judicial custody following a complaint filed by a Moroccan citizen residing in Belgium. The complaint alleges forgery of an official document and its use within an administrative certificate suspected to be employed in an attempt to seize property owned by another party.
According to informed sources, the suspect faces approximately 20 previous complaints, still under judicial review, mainly related to illegal land seizure and unauthorized land subdivision.
Initial investigations revealed strong indications that the official exploited his elected position to engage in unlawful practices, including forgery of official administrative documents and the use of canceled or illegally issued copies to gain personal benefits or serve interests linked to illicit networks.
After completing the custody period, the suspect was brought before the competent public prosecutor’s office. The investigating judge at the Tangier Court of Appeal ordered his detention pending a criminal investigation into charges of forgery and use of forged official documents, as well as related cases of illegal land subdivision and property seizure.
Detailed investigation sessions are expected to continue until the end of July, with the possibility of summoning additional parties connected to the case. A final decision will be made regarding prosecution before the criminal court or dismissal of the case.
This case, which involves offenses undermining public trust, has sparked widespread debate about the effectiveness of oversight and transparency mechanisms within local authorities, and the responsibility of elected officials to comply with laws regulating land and administrative documents, avoiding any abuse of power or legal violations.
